LUE: The Social Media Diet
Having decided to cut Facebook from my life, I feel a hell of a lot better.
No, seriously.
It came to me on Saturday night, as we were driving home from Tel Aviv (my father-in-law's birthday party/brother-in-law's housewarming party) that a big factor in my mental breakdown was the high volume of nastiness constantly coming my way on Facebook. Better to just cut that out. Mind you, I'm still on Messenger. My friends use it to talk to me as well as send me pet pictures (always a bonus). And Eyal uses it to send me cute pictures of kitties and puppies throughout the day. So Messenger is fine. I'm still on Pinterest, because all I do on Pinterest is recipes and embroidery patterns and journal prompts and makeup and perfume and plus-size fashion. I'm still on Instagram, because dammit, I will get around to posting my wedding pictures. And I'm still on AO3 because I do have fanfic plot bunnies that I plan to work on. But my days are a lot better now without the constant noise and cortisol rushes from Facebook.
Am I avoiding the news? Not completely. Eyal lets me know what's going on. I know what I need to know. I still read newspapers online, though I am a lot more selective in what I read.
I can report that while food diets have extremely limited if any success, I think a social media diet is damn healthy.
